When Marie was diagnosed with diabetes, she weighed 330 pounds, had difficulty getting around and was in constant pain. Her life changed when she met Wendy Huhn, M.D. and was urged to try the ITG Diet Plan — a 3-step nutrition program designed to get participants into a light state of ketosis quickly and efficiently. The program is offered as part of her treatment with Dr. Huhn at the Diabetes and Endocrine Center of Orlando.

“I’ve lost 101 pounds so far,” says Marie. “The biggest benefit for me has been getting off all injectable insulins. I’ve been lowering the dosage on a lot of my medications, and I don’t need to use the needles as much anymore which is a joy.”

People who are overweight or obese face an increased risk of weight-related health problems. Diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease are just a few of the conditions that have been linked to excessive weight.

What Is the ITG Weight Loss Plan?

The ITG Weight Loss Plan is a structured medically-supervised nutrition plan that helps patients meet their dietary and weight-loss goals. Available to patients at the Diabetes and Endocrine Center of Orlando, the ITG Weight Loss Plan features delicious products that allow individuals to lose weight and keep it off, for two primary reasons:

  • Patients shed fat instead of muscle
  • The focus of the Weight Loss Plan is on teaching people to make better-eating choices instead of merely eliminating all fun foods from their diet

“Another benefit has been being able to move easier and not having the pains that I’ve had,” says Marie. “I can park farther away. When I first started the program, I thought I was going to have to buy a little scooter because the walking was just too hard on my arthritis, my knees, and bursitis. Now I look at others and say ‘I was one of those people, and now I’m not going to have to be one of them (anymore).’”

How Does the Weight Loss Plan Work?

The endocrinologists at the Diabetes and Endocrine Center of Orlando form part of a team of weight management specialists trained to help individuals attain an appropriate body weight, enhance their fitness level, and prevent health issues from arising or worsening.

“I think you have to be ready, mentally, to commit to the weight loss program,” Marie continues. “As far as the program itself, it’s simple to follow. They give you good guidelines. You get to pick which foods work for you and decide what doesn’t work. It was easy to get started. One of the things that helped me the most was keeping track of things with the food log and planning for what I was going to eat every day.”

Marie ITGThe Weight Loss Plan utilizes a body composition analyzer (BC IV) to assess patient body composition and estimate basal metabolic rate (BMR). In addition to a patient’s weight, the analyzer machine calculates lean body mass, body fat, body mass index (BMI), and percentage of body fat. A physician will then use this analysis to create a weight loss and fitness plan tailor-made to each patient’s needs.

“It’s a great program. It was easy for me to keep up with it, and the food is amazing. It makes it easier when you can see what foods are available to you. You can start up for a minimal fee, and you get two weeks worth of food. You can try it and see if you like it, and if it’s something you can work with. I say to people ‘Try it. Give it two weeks, see how you feel, and what kind of weight you can lose in that time. You’ll be amazed.’”

After her successful weight loss quest, Marie is grateful for the results she achieved and wholeheartedly recommends the ITG Weight Loss Plan to others. “It’s an amazing journey,” she says. “And I think anybody who knows me and has seen me at my very worst can attest to the value of the weight-loss plan.”

“When I started this program, I weighed 275 pounds, and now I weigh 174 pounds, all in only a year’s time. I think that says a lot. It can be done. You feel amazing afterward, and the compliments and the looks that you get from people, now as opposed to before, are two different worlds. It’s definitely worth it.”
